As a lyricist, a writer and a journalist, words are not only my passion but my livelihood.
After moving to DC and leaving my band in LA, I was aching to produce something lyrical again. The pain of walking away from a decade-long music dream kept me from reaching out to new people in DC and collaborating through music. Instead, one day, I sat down to write an article and out came a poem. I recited it out loud and the spoken word pieces in Act Out! were born.
Since then, almost every week of the show includes a spoken word piece. The flood gates opened, you might say. A book of some of these spoken word pieces is on its way and I have taken these pieces to the stage now as well – filing the performance gap that I also greatly missed.
Check out both performance and Act Out! spoken word iterations below.
